Referrals and admissions

If you would like to make a referral for a planned admission to one of our child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS), please contact our 24 hour referrals information line, Huntercombe Direct, on:

If you have a patient or resident you would like to refer to any of our other services, this can either be made directly to the relevant hospital or specialist centre or if you prefer you can still contact our Huntercombe Direct service, which is manned 24 hours per day, 365 days a year.

On receiving the referral information, our teams will either quickly undertake a clinical assessment of the paperwork provided or arrange to visit and meet with the patient or resident.

Following our assessment, we will either make the arrangements to admit the patient or resident or possibly offer alternative solutions if we don’t think we are the right people to help.

Emergency referrals

Because some of our patients need to be admitted in an emergency, we offer an out of hours service at our six child and adolescent mental health hospitals (CAMHS) and at our adult psychiatric intensive care (PICU) hospital based at Roehampton.

Adult PICU services

For all adult PICU services, we will respond within one hour of the referral paperwork being received and all referrals will be directed to a member of our clinical team immediately.  To contact our clinical team at Roehampton for an out of hours admission or to discuss a case please call:

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)

We can offer admissions at any time to our CAMHS hospitals via our Huntercombe Direct telephone number:

0330 660 5555

These telephone numbers can be used weekdays from 5.00pm until 9.00am the following morning or during weekends and bank holidays.


For those services where we already have an agreement in place (e.g. as part of a Standard NHS Contract, Local Authority contract or other framework agreement), we will always follow the correct procedure for admission, in line with commissioner approval as set out in those relevant service conditions.

The Huntercombe Group currently also offer Access Assessments out-of-hours for referrals originating from the West Midlands, on behalf of NHS England.

Whilst some of our services are the preferred providers for some organisations, we are also happy to consider referrals from others.
