Blackheath Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre has 2 units, the TBIRU, that provides neuro rehabilitation for those who are cognitively impaired following a brain injury and present with behaviours that challenge other neuro rehabilitation services. HNDU provides services for patients/ clients who have complex physical disabilities following a Brain Injury or as a result of a neurological disorder, and require neuro rehabilitation.
For both units at Blackhealth BIRC we generally admit patients direct from the acute hospitals as soon as they are medically stable and able to participate or tolerate their rehab programme. We actively look for a discharge placement close to their home so that when they are ready for discharge they can be closer to their friends and families. The average length of stay is 120 days, as we strive to return the clients back to their local community as soon as they are ready.
Blackheath Brain Injury and Rehabilitation Centre is situated in a purpose built facility. All patients/clients have single rooms, and we encourage the patient/client and their visitors to individualise the room to feel like home. Each unit has a garden area, TV lounge and Dinning room. The centre is situated close to Blackheath and Greenwich with its parks, churches, shops, cafes, coffee shops, cinema, gyms etc and we are able to incorporate these facilities and activities into the rehabilitation programme for patient/clients and at the weekends
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) are responsible for inspecting Blackheath Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre and Neurodisability Service.
