Granville Lodge provides long term and respite care for children with physical difficulties and complex health needs who may have an associated learning disability . The children who access our service are usually children with chronic, long term conditions which are managed within a community setting.
We ensure that all our care staff are trained in the health care needs specific to each child. Alongside our Seniors and Support Workers we have the additional benefit of having the expertise of Registered Nurses, from different disciplines, working within the team.
We are experienced, and all our staff are trained in working with children who are fed via a Gastrostomy PEG and have a tracheostomy and therefore require suctioning. Our staff are also trained and experienced in working with children who have epilepsy and may require emergency medication eg Midazolam administration. We have also received training in diabetes care, including the administration of insulin. Because some of the children we work with may have a learning disability we also have staff experienced and trained in using alternate forms of communication eg Makaton and we have in the past also looked after children who are deaf and communicate using British Sign Language.
Granville Lodge is a large, Victorian house set in a friendly residential area of Hartlepool, which has been specially adapted to meet the needs of children with physical disabilities. We provide a homely, friendly and safe environment for the children who stay with us. Each child has their own bedroom which they can personalise and we have a wide range of facilities and adaptations for children with disabilities.
