James House is a registered hospital situated in the picturesque Devonshire village of Chudleigh and is suitable for men aged 18 and upwards with mental disorders, impaired cognitive and social functioning, autistic spectrum conditions, challenging behaviour and complex needs. Some patients may also have a forensic history.
In this safe, welcoming environment, patients can enjoy a uniquely-tailored range of activities to build confidence, self-worth and an ability to relate to others. Some patients may have moved on from a secure environment as part of their care pathway and require a supportive, structured environment to help them rehabilitate and cope with on-going challenges.
Positive engagement, empowerment and individual and group support is provided by a highly-qualified care team who work collaboratively with patients to reduce risk, achieve goals and greater independence. As patients rehabilitate, greater social inclusion is encouraged within the hospital and local community to support reintegration into the community.
James House has a high staff-to-patient ratio, with a dedicated, highly-experienced multi-disciplinary team comprising of; consultant psychologists and psychiatrists and qualified nursing staff.
Treatments and services include: a free-of-charge pre-admission assessment; tailored care and treatment programmes, delivered within a well-established, evidence-based psychological model and an evidence-based risk assessment and relapse prevention programme.
