The Huntercombe Hospital Stafford is a child and adolescent mental health service for young people of both genders aged 12-18 years. The hospital can also admit detained patients. We have 39 beds in the hospital and are committed to maintaining the highest standards in the healthcare we provide.
The Hartley Unit is located on the first floor of a purpose-built two storey building. Hartley is our psychiatric intensive care service. The Thorneycroft Unit is located on the ground floor of this building and treats young people with a mental health diagnosis requiring; assessment, admission, treatment or rehabilitation. This includes patients who may step-down from the Hartley unit as a detained to informal patient/ informal treatment programme and early rehabilitation. The Wedgwood unit, located in the separate original building, provides a specialist service for the treatment of eating disorders for a maximum of 15 patients.
We are able to take emergency admissions 24 hours a day and can provide a clear pathway for the assessment, treatment and discharge of our patients.
The Hospital provides a full educational service to our young people who wish to continue with studies whilst in hospital or who have been unable to access them whilst in the community. In addition to this a wide range of internal and external activities are provided by our therapy and nursing teams meeting the individual needs of the young people.
