Some bed availability
At Eldertree Lodge, near Stoke-on-Trent, we provide specialist short-term high-dependency rehabilitation and support for adults with Autism, Asperger's or other Learning Disabilities.
Our site is intentionally split into six buildings or “wards” each comprising 6 bedrooms. Not only does this arrangement better reflect community living but we know from experience that people with learning disabilities do better in small familiar environments where there are less people and less noise. Our layout also enables us to place patients in the ward most suited to their age, gender and their particular support needs. With our small wards, our high staff to patient ratio and de-escalation facilities we are also able to manage patients with particularly challenging behaviours.
Our aim is to help patients move into the community as soon as possible and to improve each patient's longer-term outcome.
CQC rated our service as "good" in November 2017.
"Staff demonstrated a positive, caring attitude towards patients. Staff interacted with patients in a caring compassionate way" (CQC , November 2017)

This service provides short-term assessment and treatment (from three to six months) for adults in preparation for step down into a rehabilitation unit or directly to the community. During their stay, our specialist team provide comprehensive assessment which includes formal diagnosis, sensory assessment and sensory diet, communication needs, functional analysis, review of medication and positive behavioural support (PBS). The ward provides individualised treatment and an autism specific environment including access to purpose built de-escalation areas.
The purpose of admission to this ward is assessment, treatment and rehabilitation whilst preparing patients for step-down into the community. The ward provides individualised rehabilitation, transition planning and supporting discharge within a modern open plan environment.
We look after both men and women with any of the following:
Autistic Spectrum Disorders
We also have a practice nurse available on site to allow us to admit patients who also have physical long-term conditions such as diabetes or epilepsy.

We like it when families are actively involved in a loved one’s care, helping us to set the right goals for a patient each step of the way.
The service is run by Alan Malin. He is supported by a team of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, teachers, therapists and support workers. Eldertree Lodge is a new service fully supporting the transforming care agenda.
