Many of the adults in our service have severe and life-long learning disabilities or autistic spectrum disorders. Some of our patients have been detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007) because they are considered a risk to themselves or others. Others may be with us on a Deprivation of Liberty Safeguarding Order (DoLS) or may have a forensic history. Some patients choose to come here. We have a practice nurse available on site to enable us to admit patients who, in addition to their learning disability or autistic spectrum disorder, have a physical long-term condition such as diabetes or epilepsy.
