Murdostoun Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Neurological Care Centre

At Murdostoun Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Neurological Care Centre, we offer rehabilitation, care and support to people over the age of 16 years with a brain injury or other neurological condition.

We provide specialist rehabilitation for people in the early stages of recovery from an acquired brain injury and we also provide residential care for individuals with progressive neurological conditions, such as Motor Neurone Disease.

Age range: individuals over the age of 16 years.

What we do

There are two buildings on our Murdostoun site: a brain injury rehabilitation unit and a neurological care unit.

Our Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) includes a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine, Consultant Neuropsychiatrist, Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist, Clinical Psychologist, Specialist Nursing Team, Head of Therapy, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Counsellor in Neurorehabilitation, Assistant Psychologists, Communiy Discharge Liaison Manager and Rehabilitation Assistants. Our team members are working towards the same practical, realistic goals and that all therapies are focused on the areas that will enable patients to achieve those clearly defined and agreed goals.

We provide individualised assessment and intensive rehabilitation to help people recover from a brain injury. At all times we work to achieve the best possible outcomes in terms of independence and quality of life,

We most commonly assess and admit patients who are in the very early stages of recovery from a brain injury.  These patients are normally admitted from a NHS hospital. We also assess and treat people who have been living with a brain injury for some time, but due to a change in their situation, would benefit from some treatment.

We provide long-term care and respite care for individuals with a neurological condition.  We offer two services:

  • Our slow-stream service is for individuals who need more time to practise new skills before moving back home or into the community. They may or may not have undertaken some specialist rehabilation first.
  • Our complex disability service is for individuals with complex problems associated with their condition and who can no longer be looked after easily at home.
