Introducing sign language at Moorpark Place

Posted / 27 April 2020

The Speech and Language Therapy Department in Moorpark Place have introduced a “sign of the week” in order to expand residents’ communication skills.  We recently moved to teaching sign-language skills through video rather than photo, in order to improve accuracy and engage our residents further.  Usually, this would be taught face-to-face at our weekly bingo sessions but we have currently moved to virtual teaching.  Each week, a sign is emailed around staff and displayed throughout the site in order to promote the use of sign-language as an additional communication tool.  The signs are usually based on topical events in order to encourage conversation and interaction.  Our very first sign of the week was “rainbow” which we share with you below.   You can view future signs of the week on our social media channels.
